After a busy summer festival season trading, bartering, chit-chattering with festival goers and chilling in fields, we embarked on our winter journey to a city space. “The Nails Market” belongs to Bristol’s Old City; it’s designed for local independent traders to sell a variety of unique gifts, art and food. The market embraces Bristol’s cultural scene, enabling an ideal spot for Once In A Blue Moon!
Over the crimbo season, we set up a base here, bringing with us our tatted, donated festival treasures and trinkets, including the blue nomadic lights which helped jazz up the market table. The mix-matched décor contributed to our wandering, travelling space.

Feeling inspired by the flavours and new foods tried during our recent expeditions to Brazil and India; we created food and drink products based on these adventures, adding a touch of our own style ;).

There is Cheese in the dough! Oooohhh yeah! This cheesy bready dough was also used to make tasty toasties (with the help of a George Foreman grill) which came with a selection of fillings including Brie, Cranberry and Rocket for the festive season. We had some warm reviews even from native Brazilians who stumbled upon us. Most folk seemed to find the caramelized onions pretty tasty too.
Winter warmer
Out Spicy Chai and Mulled Apple beverages were made on site using a few pans, a ladle and a gas stove. Using a sift, and a pouring trick picked up from South India we served the drinks hot to our customers.
Passersby
Every Sunday the stall was lively and filled with seasonal merriment getting us in the “Christmas spirit”. We did experience some horrendous storms (that blew away parts of the stall), but this didn’t stop the good times we huddled under the tarpaulin with customers overlooking the British weather. We met some brilliant folks, had some delightful conversations over a cup of spicy chai, and mulled apple, and even the occasional jam which included the melodica and accordion. Passersby often enjoyed our samples and came back for more. The customers, traders and friends all gave positive and constructive feedback and many were interested in the goings on at the stall. The stalls around us and the Bristol council also welcomed us to the community, offering friendly advice and support.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed every moment; it was a great introduction to the Bristol food network and a jolly good experience.
